The BioActiveScreen Center is comprised of three platforms with state-of-the-art equipment and screening technologies and provides services for extract isolation, procedure optimization, chemical identification and screening of biologically active compounds, as well as services for assay development and toxicity assessment
Applications of interest that can be performed in the Center’s facilities include:
- Purification of biological compounds of high-added value from natural sources
- Purification of recombinant proteins, such as bioactive polypeptides with pharmaceutical use, expressed in bacterial or eukaryotic cells
- Analysis of biomolecular mixtures’ composition and the impact of biophysical conditions on their functionality
- Optimization of purification protocols involving proteins with enzymatic activity, from low-scale research applications to pilot large-scale analysis for industrial applications
In addition, bioactivities of compounds can be determined including:
- Assessment of toxicological/biosafety profile of compounds
- Identification of potential anticancer and anticarcinogenic compounds
- Evaluation of the immunostimulatory properties of compounds
- Assays to monitor cells/stem cells differentiation for the identifications of cellular targets
- Αssay development for high content screening for compounds acting as epigenetic modifiers
- Analysis of cellular pathways for the identification of molecular targets
- Assays for the investigation of antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral properties of compounds
- Assays in 3D cell cultures
Services provided by the BioActiveScreen Center can be utilized in a wide range of applications including:
- Biopharmaceutical products evaluation
- Metabolite identification
- Natural products identification and analysis
- Forensic Toxicology Screening
- Pesticide Screening
- Food safety and water quality testing
